I believe that a chair should not only look good and be aesthetically pleasing, but it is equally important that it sit well and be perfectly fitted to ones body.

Along with my wife Maureen, a physical therapist, we have contoured the seats and backs of the chairs and rockers for orthopedic comfort.

Prices are for replication in a similar wood.

All dimensions are approximate. Let me know if you need an exact measurement.  Dimensions can sometimes be altered to fit your needs.

Nuevo Rocking Chair

I wanted to design a new rocking chair that was totally different and had to connection with the popular “maloof” rockers.  In this chair, the seat is floating on long metal dowels into the legs.  To keep the frame from moving, the rear legs are set at an angle to the front.  Wenge back and legs. Figured bubingua seat and arms.

Contemporary Rocking Chair

This is one of my favorite pieces; I’ve made many over the years. All of the critical fitting dimensions were taken from my Windsor design, but the overall form is totally modern. This chair is in curly maple, but I have also made them in walnut and California acacia (like koa).

Sometimes I will make the back supports out of a contrasting wood like ebony. 25”x38”x45”

Contemporary Slat Back Rocker

This is my most popular chair. The slats across the seat and back are fixed on one end only allowing them to spring into your body. Plans to build this rocker are available through American Furniture Design and are taught at the American sycamore retreat in Indianapolis, (See links page). 27”x29”x46”

Optional Attaching Cradle

This cradle is designed to attach to the Contemporary Slat Back Rocker. It allows you to rock the cradle by rocking in the chair.

English Garden Bench

A few years ago I built this bench and the client recently asked if I could make a gazebo cover and table to go with it. The bench and table are made of cypress and the gazebo is cedar. 110”x54”x98”

Spanish Mission Bench

This Spanish Mission bench is made from incense cedar killed by the Cedar Fire in 2003. The frame is stained dark with the seat natural color and is held together with large iron “clavos” nails. 84”x22”x42”

Windsor Rocker

This was one of my first rocking chairs. The original design came off of a very small “ladies” rocker that I made for a client. I liked it so much that I decided to redesign it and scale it larger. There were 7 back slats and the one in the center always hit exactly on my spine. I reduced the number to 6 and made them orthopedically shaped to your back. 28”x24”x46”

Bow-back Bench

Traditionally this bench would have used seamed oak for the arm/back, but when making it in walnut, I used epoxy laminations for strength. 24”x48”x44”

Presider’s chairs

These were part of a group of furnishings made for a Lutheran Church in La Jolla Calif. White Oak 28”x30”x48”.

This was a custom sofa in the Biedermeier style that was made for the annual “Designers Showcase House” and appeared in San Diego Home and garden magazine. (See links page). 28”x120”x30”
